Some early saltwater fishing...

Other than my dad, I probably learned more about fishing from our long-time next-door neighbor, Roy Woods. Roy was an excellent crappie and bluegill fisherman and an extremely patient gentleman.

As our next door neighbor, I spent a lot of time asking him questions about crappie fishing and observing his fishing techniques.  He also trapped turtles and I fondly remember going over to his yard to see how big his latest turtle was that he had recently caught in his traps.

Roy and my dad helped keep the lake in shape too.  I remember all the guys on the lake getting together to rake the moss from the lake to burn. The brush piles that Roy and my dad placed in the lake back in the 1970's can still be found in the lake and were always reliably produced fish...

I don't know how many hundreds of times that I would run up to their door to show off my fish. Roy's wife, Martha Woods, told me that I once knocked on her door (at a very young age) and asked her if she had any salt that I could use... When she asked me why I needed the salt, I supposedly told her I needed it for the lake "because I heard that there were some pretty big fish in salt water!"

When I see them together again in Heaven one day, they will be one of the first doors that I will knock on....
